The Wildervanners

A road trip across Europe

Week 4: In search of Montalbano

The dust clouds have cleared and in South East Sicily the skies are bright blue, the fields are full of wild flowers and we’ve been to some beautiful Baroque towns and churches. Here is the Wildervan in Scicli.

This is Diana’s drawing of Ragusa cathedral in the evening light.

But for fans of Montalbano (Sicilian Police Inspector in the invented town of Vigata) the real fun was tracking down his whereabouts. His house (in Punta Secca) and the beach where he walks (Donnalucata). For anyone who hasn’t watched the series, we recommend you do and the places are all beautiful too!

The police station in Scicli with his office and the booth where Catarello answers the phone. Also the Commissario’s office which is in fact upstairs in Scicli’s very grand town hall (and not in Montelusa).

And finally the Castello Donnafugata which is one of the villains’ hideouts.

We’ve now started a week in and around Syracuse. This is Alex’s drawing of the statue by the castle on the island of Ortygia.

And yesterday we celebrated Alex’s birthday with an aperol spritz …or two.
